Nature’s Social Distancing…

Reading Time: 5 minutes
Nature has been charismatic since ever in expressing itself as living forms and the five elements that control and support the rest of the life forms. In the glory of nature there has been so much of inherited learning that has been handed down through generations from epics, to ballads to praises of god to celebrating ways of nature in manifold ways.
nature's distancing

Long ago while in school we were taught about the adrenalin reactions which the body follows the three Fs reaction, Fright, Fight and Flight…

Today when we see it happening in nature it feels as if you have practical classes happening live before you.

The only mordacity of the situation is that here we are a huge race advanced, developed and evolved as the modern Homo sapiens just 3,00,000 years ago and fighting with some single celled, incomplete and invisible microbe that has been on the planet since 1.5 billion years without being affected at all, with all our technology we have developed and created out of the enigmatic human brain capable of conquering the whole planet almost.

Well, perhaps it is not just the only time we have been shown the mirror. Like history has it recorded for humans to remember that every hundred years since few centuries and must be even before that, Nature has been trying to tell us to control ourselves as decent and respectful inhabitants of the planet, but we fail to understand each time.

The great plague of Marseille in 1720, the cholera pandemic in 1820, the Spanish flu in 1920 and now we have the COVID 19 outbreak in 2020.

Every time something like this happened, the world became one to fight against it which is otherwise competing for things which could not save either of them.

Man landed on Moon in the twentieth century but cannot even solve the issue of a single celled creature that could take his peace way multiple times.

If all epidemics were to be considered together almost half or more of the world’s population has been claimed by only the invisible bacteria and virus causing either plague or Flu of various kinds across the world.

However, India in this aspect has fared well above the other developed nations even in historical times when there was no competition among st countries also.

But of all things that we are discussing today should we not turn few pages and look back in to the past to find out what exactly did save us while the rest of the world suffered?

And why is it that we have slackened a bit now in facing such threats from nature?

Nature has been charismatic in expressing itself as living forms and the five elements that control and support the rest of the life forms. In the glory of nature there has been so much of inherited learning that has been handed down through generations from epics, to ballads to praises of god to celebrating ways of nature in manifold ways.

One day when evolution finally landed man unto this planet, things changed, at first for the good when man himself respected nature. All men prayed to nature, loved the forms, used as much required, exploiting resources wasn’t a norm of the day under pretext of development and most of all lived amicably with animals.

We suddenly got fanatic about our status and fashion statement kept lining our portico with fancy cars without sparing a thought for the unbearable amount of pollution that has made life unbearable for animals and now human themselves.

Today in a mad rush to achieve more than what we even deserve, we have tried to smoke up the serene skies, burned down forests, destroyed canopy covers, clear of rain-forests, exploited wildlife, traded meat and whole animals for greed, polluted rivers, hurled tons of plastic into the oceans, destroyed water table, dug mines to look for diamonds.

For example, for each ton of steel, we produce we use 75000 gallons of freshwater, while we know just 1% of the water is available to us for use as freshwater on earth.

We traded pangolins believing that their aphrodisiac values will somehow save us from diseases and lo, they are the ones as if blurting their vengeance upon us carried COVID- 19 from bats to humans.

We have dried up wells, cut off hills, cleared mountains, fragmented corridors, and cringed up our health by swooning lifestyles into needless luxuries. In the name of technological advancement, humans have clogged the space with satellites through billion-dollar budget programs. Devastated the habitats of numerous wild animals to erect mobile towers that hurt birds and other animals, to cultivate palm and kill enormous rain-forests. These developments at the cost of nature and the irreparable loss that it has entailed into, have today cost us, dear. We are at the primitive stage again respecting nature and the laws it has enforced upon us to prove its might. Since all the technological advancements of the world taken together could not save the planet from the wrath of a tiny invisible virus, today nature has finally distanced itself from us proclaiming to human civilization that whenever any species crosses the line, breaks the law of the land and maddened by greed loses control over senses, nature has its own ways to bring them under control. Suddenly today the world feels it has retracted itself into an archaic era where glorious fashion statements, parties, and loud occasions have been silenced into the corners of our homes. Our craze for the yellow metal is today absurd and meaningless, the craze for cars have become futile as you can’t hit the road at all. Your gossip, showbiz, luxurious lifestyle, greed for meat, desire to smoke clouds, game animals, scoot obnoxious air from vehicles, jarring industries, honking mad traffic, screeching wagons, dark business, gambling and so much more all has gone for a toss…

Finally nature has rebooted itself telling the man that all it needed was our absence. Our confinement like we tried to do with elephants shooing them away from their own lands, with birds by caging them down, farming animals for meat, destroying forests for electricity, constructing dams! Nature has called it an emergency where it could give the other inmates their share of peace, their right to exist on the same planet which we have sabotaged. Today the refreshing air, the cleaner atmosphere, the cleansed rivers, less plastic we have used, fewer trees we chopped, minimized vehicular pollution and so much more of rejuvenation that has happened has awakened man from within as to what were we up to after all. Life is still happening with everything in place. We still eat, rather healthier, spend more quality time with family, work moderately from homes, do household chores together, share the pain and burden avoid extra shopping, and baseless expenditure. Animals are back to their much-needed habitats, they have revived their rightful space for coexistence. Something man has now learned the hard way after losing several lives. Nature’s social distancing has today taught us a vital lesson of the boon of living a minimalistic life. Hopefully, this lesson will be well taken in the right spirit by this present generation that’s failing miserably for which the catastrophe in the lurking can become a reality any moment unless we mend our ways soon.

It’s really pity on how humans have destroyed this planet?
